I first got wind of it in the DeppDelusions subreddit, in a post where people were debating the film's promotion; back then things were pretty divided (with the new information the subreddit is fully backing BL), but I remember thinking that critising her specifically for it felt odd, as she (and everyone else in the cast) was likely under contract in terms of how they were meant to promote it. And then, in that same post or another, I saw that he had hired the same PR firm as Depp himself, and thought it was suspcious. So when the accusations of miscounduct and defamation came I wasn't surprised, but holy shit, the shit he did on set was vile.
The Gisèle Pelicot case is heavy. I felt strangely clear-sighted the more I read about it; I've freed myself from any socially-mandated obligation to give cis men a single thought. Even allowing them mindspace is wasting energy and effort I don't want to dedicate to them. The demoralising numbers in this case, in others like it across the globe, or articles about those telegram chatgroups where tens of thousands of men give each other advice on how to sexually abuse women weren't a huge surprise to me, but they cemented a lot of my believes. It's all about focusing on women, like Gisèle and others; on how they can be helped.
