I'LL BE BACK 🕶️🤖

It's been... a while lol.
I just wanted to pop in for a moment! I want to go back to use dreamwidth more, and the snowflake challenge is always a nice way to do it, so I'll be back for that in a few days ^-^
How have you guys been? Feel free to tell me anything new and exciting you have going on, fandom/creativity-related, or otherwise!
P.S. I did post a new entry of my author's newsletter, where I talk a bit of what's been going on with my life and my plans going forward, and gave a few recs, in case anyone's curious.
P.P.S. If you haven't yet, I recommend reading the piece the New York Times wrote about the smear campaign on Blake Lively (and here is the full lawsuit, if you can make the time), and this article detailing the case and perpetrators in the Gisèle Pelicot case. It's a downer way to end the post, but I feel it's something everyone needs to be informed about.

Date: 2024-12-24 06:08 pm (UTC)The Gisèle Pelicot case is heavy. I felt strangely clear-sighted the more I read about it; I've freed myself from any socially-mandated obligation to give cis men a single thought. Even allowing them mindspace is wasting energy and effort I don't want to dedicate to them. The demoralising numbers in this case, in others like it across the globe, or articles about those telegram chatgroups where tens of thousands of men give each other advice on how to sexually abuse women weren't a huge surprise to me, but they cemented a lot of my believes. It's all about focusing on women, like Gisèle and others; on how they can be helped.

Date: 2024-12-25 01:12 am (UTC)Everything has been okay. Right now stressing about the holidays, and of course this year has been stressful in general (especially last month which got me down pretty bad for numerous reasons), but as a whole I'm doing alright. Trying to be more positive and keep my spirits up for the new year.
I'll be honest, I unfortunately did fall for the smear campaign. I'm not a fan of Blake Lively, I don't care for her acting and she's done things in the past that made me side-eye her, so that's probably why the campaign most likely worked. However, I admit that I was wrong to believe in that (and I do feel foolish in taking what I had initially read at face value) since I know that just because I don't like her doesn't mean she deserves this smear campaign against her in this manner. The things that made me side-eye her pale in comparison to what this Justin guy and his PR team have done. We've been seeing this pop up over the years, smear campaigns and hate campaigns in general, and it's quite disconcerting. This is a very common problem in the age of social media where things can be stated or claimed and people will automatically believe it without checking the legitimacy of these claims.

Date: 2024-12-25 08:58 am (UTC)I knew next to nothing about Blake Lively, but I remember when people first talked about the polemic surrounding the film's promotion the plantation wedding came up and... yeah, that's despicable. I had no opinion on her before that, but I had already developed a case of "this fucking guy" annoyance for Ryan Reynolds lol, and that cemented it. But afaic none of that has any place when discussing the sexual harassment and defamation she's suffered, yeah. Being exempt from those should be something even the most scummy person in the planet is entitled to, imo.
Also, the thing about defamation campaigns is that they work, yeah. Most people are not on the lookout for it because they, reasonably!, take things in good faith. I followed the Depp v Heard case closely and could recognise certain patterns (similar with cases like Angelina Jolie, Sophie Turner, etc.). If nothing else, I hope Lively's case serves to make people a little more diligent in cases like these.
I hope things calm down and you go on to have a good new year ^-^
