Sometimes I've thought about picking the show up again, mostly due to Maia Roberts (she became my favourite character and her storyline sounded interesting), but it just hasn't happened. Maybe one day.
I did write some one-shots, mostly for rarepairs. And yeah, it was a case of the popular ship having really officious shippers who (despite the fact that their ship had all the fanworks AND was all but guaranteed to be endgame) were very insecure and felt the need to control other fans' likes and dislikes. I still remember they organised an Alec Lightwood Appreciation Week and one of the prompts was "favourite Malec moment." I remember because I pointed out this was odd, as I'd never seen a fandom week mandate a ship, and I got anon hate for it xD
AAÑSLFKJ same. Ngl, even when I luck out on liking a popular ship enough to write it, somehow I manage to like them in A Wrong Way, according to fandom xDD, so that's fun sometimes.
I allow anonymous comments but I have them screened, here and in my new community. I haven't had problems so far *knocks on wood*. But yes! you describe the difference between DW and other sites well. It would be SO weird to come to someone's journal with that attitude. It's not the culture here at all, it'd be bizarre and immediately shut down and shunned. People can sense those things and act accordingly.
I do love tumblr because I've met a lot of great people there (and I don't edit a lot anymore, but it IS a great for gifsets, graphics, and the like), and I have fandom friends I've mostly talked to on discord... but the culture there is very different and largely terrible, the further you wander outside your comfort zone. I keep it to small circles and small servers and even then I have encountered some shit LOL.
And never apologise for a long reply, I love those xD
