Those who witnessed them spoke of how they soared through the night in a perfect synchronicity –dodging the sharp bends of the sky-high buildings, keeping company with the stony gargoyles watching over the city.
One drew long shadows; membranous wings and pointed horns found camouflage in the darkness, until time came to plummet over its prey in a righteous descent.
The other was small, bright-coloured –a runty, vulnerable shape everlasting, indifferent to the changes of seasons–; but oh, how it flew: a free, shiny companion, mischievous laughter a contrast to the larger devil’s menace, when he perched on his shoulder.
