When Gabriel comes back, Kali isn’t surprised.

Furious about the rouse, sure. Relieved, to confirm he managed to cheat death again. But far from shocked.

Away from the crowd, she drinks to celebrate the Earth's survival. Her remaining faithful had offered their tributes and Kali had accepted them all with poised grace, before retiring to enjoy her quiet solitude.

Quiet. Solitude. Two words that flee a room whenever Gabriel arrives.

“I ought to stab you again,” Kali muses, pouring a glass for him.

Gabriel rests his chin on his hands and regales her with one of his slow, mischievous grins.
