In the dream Barbara is a string of ones and zeroes written in blinking neon green; she moves at light-year velocity through interwoven cables and hidden pathways, leaving behind infectious malware and taking instead her target’s most precious secrets –she snatches them like prey between her claws and disseminates them through the tips of her feathers to reach whoever can enact justice with them.

She awakens every morning; she exercises; she sits in front of her Orwellian set-up, the pale artificial light it emits bathing her skin.

The corner of her mouth curves upwards, imperceptibly so; Barbara –still– can fly.
