Snowflake Challenge: A close up shot of an owl ornament hanging amidst pine boughs..

Challenge #3
Write a love letter to fandom. It might be to fandom in general, to a particular fandom, favourite character, anything at all.

There is a lot of things about fandom that deserve praise, as much as it can get frustrating sometimes. For this particular post, though, I want to give a bit of a shout-out to a small, often overlooked part of fandom: the femslash corners of it <3

In some particular fandoms those corners are pretty huge and active, which is delightful to see, but in general f/f has a smaller presence than other categories. However, the creativity that buzzes in said corners is always beautiful to see. The people who feel passion for it are truly dedicated and put their all into their creations.

I love writing it myself. I'm looking forward to the next instances of the [community profile] threesentenceficathon or [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles for that very purpose, because I know those kinds of events are great sources of inspiration for myself (and hey, maybe if I'm lucky, I'll receive some small f/f gifts myself :P). I'm also going to keep an eye on [community profile] 100femslash and see if I can complete the challenge myself.

And... I was simply going to mention my plans, but I went ahead and dived into the deep end of the pool and created [community profile] dcfemslashevents , exactly what it says on the tina community to host and organise (and boost) femslash events for DC characters! As the sticky post says, there are some plans for this year underway, and I'll likely talk more about it during the Snowflake Challenge, if I get the chance.

Challenge #5
In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, a wishlist of sorts.

Let's keep it to the theme!
  • Give me your best femslash recs! In fic or any other form. Those that you think are truly good, that stayed with you, that you want everyone else to experience.
  • Tell me about your favourite femslash ships, the first ones you liked, the F/F books, shows, films etc. you're obsessed with, the ones you write about yourself... Anything femslash!
  • I would welcome someone who'd want to help with the DC Femslash Events community, but no pressure :P
Challenge #6
Top 10 Challenge.

For this, I'll post 10(ish) femslash ships I wish to see more of, in general.
  • Maxanor, aka Eleanor Guthrie and Max, from Black Sails. Do not get me wrong: I love Maxanne, the clear fandom favourite, but I'm hungry for more Maxanor. Fics exploring their doomed romance, what-if scenarios, things about how they begun... anything!
  • Rosewaves, aka Rosita Bustillos and Waverly Earp, from Wynonna Earp. Oh, that ship absolutely ensnared me way back when! I'd love to see more creations focused on it (and only it, because the canon f/f ship was just... fine, to me LOL).
  • I made that community for a reason, so, yeah, more DC rareships. I'm particularly charmed by the idea of Cass Cain/Kate Kane, though I know it's difficult for it to match what I want for the ship LOL :P. Same for Stephanie Brown/Selina Kyle, another ship I feel has a lot of potential.
  • The Buffyverse fandom definitely has a lot of femslash going around! But I would really appreciate more of it including Kendra Young. Buffy/Kendra or Faith/Kendra, of course, but also Willow/Kendra... and some fucked up Drusilla/Kendra, especially in AUs where she turned her.
  • The 100 is another fandom where I'd love to see some rareships that get less attention, and I will continue to prompt them LOL. Octavia/Diyoza, Echo/Clarke, Clarke/Josephine (those are the only two Clarke ships I like LOL), Echo/Gaia, Raven/Indra...
  • Last year I reread Emma, by Jane Austen, and well. I will always root for Emma/Jane Fairfax, in my heart :P
  • Legacies also had some great ships, and Hizzie reigns in my heart, but Lizzie/Aurora, Lizzie/Ablah, Lizzie/Jen, Lizzie/Alyssa... all ships I'd love to see more of.
  • More femslash in Reign, my old beloved fandom. Especially among/featuring the ladies in waiting: Greer, Lola, Kenna. Either between them, or with other characters.
  • Femslash fic in Foundation! I know they're bio mother and daughter, but welp, Gaal and Salvor technically share a kiss on screen and their dynamic is unusual, to say the least. We all know if these were two white men it would've sparked a juggernaut ship lol. And the female characters in this show are all fascinating, I'd love to read more about them, for the fandom to have more fics!
  • June and Athena's dynamic was the most fascinating part of R.F. Kuang's Yellowface, and I'd love to see a bit more of it.

I'd like to put my money where my mouth is and post (some more, in a few cases) fics for at least some of these ships on 2026!

Aaaaand that's all. I'm all caught up now :P

3 sentence ficathon! Very excited.

In terms of femslash, I've got a headcanon that Nancy Wheeler from Stranger Things and Sarah Connor from Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles meet and get together and try to save the world. I've even written some of it, though never wrapped it up and posted it.

Ooo...I love this. I never finished S3 but I think I want to now.

Have you seen We Are Lady Parts?

It's a two season (and complete) comedy show about an all-female Muslim punk bands, and it's unbearably sweet and funny and full of heart. There is a canon f/f ship in the second season (involving the woman on the right of my icon and a new character), and many many people ship the woman on the left with the narrator.

There's a bunch of fun original songs, and some covers of classics, and I just really love it.

They could make more, probably (though I don't think they plan to), but the story as is has a solid ending.

I really do need to go back and finish Wynonna Earp. It was such a good show! Unfortunately, the "I'm 3/4 of the way through which means I'm done" thing struck ๐Ÿ˜” But every time I see it mentioned I end up going !!!! So yeah, definitely should go back and finish it lol

My main femslash ship is Kyoko/Chrome from Katekyou Hitman Reborn. Honestly, they're kind of my default ship at this point. Every time I write them, they're just so sweet and wholesome and in love (and sometimes I use this power to destroy them completely because angst >:3). However, Honkai: Star Rail keeps handing me ships in general, and I do really love everything that is Kafka/Stelle. Just the mystery of it? The yearning?? The potential for toxic codependency and being forced to choose between the person you love and your mission??? I'm poking them with a stick to see what they do :3

And then I also have a small selection of femslash one-shots I've enjoyed this past year from various fandoms:

Very fair, both on Wynonna Earp and not being familiar with those fandoms Lol. I think most of the fics I recced can be read fandom-blind, but if you are interested in adding to your To-Watch list, I do have some propaganda:

Looking at the fandoms in your post, Call the Midwife might be most up your alley as a show. It's a period drama set in the 1950s-1970s following the nurse midwives located in London's East End at that time as they navigate their duties and the changing medical and political landscapes. However, if you're squicked by childbirth and pregnancy, it's not for you XD

Alternatively, KPop Demon Hunters is a fun movie about a KPop girl group (Huntrix) dedicated to fighting demons except one of them is plagued by massive amounts of self-doubt and self-hatred, which throws a wrench into things. The top layer of plot is Huntrix facing off against a rival boy band that's comprised of demons who are determined to steal Huntrix's fans and thus the fans' souls. It also has a banging soundtrack imo

I'm very intrigued by that Cass Cain/Kate Kane and Steph Brown/Selina Kyle ships. ๐Ÿ‘€ What are your thoughts on those? Specifically the age difference (unless DC is messing with things again, oh god I'm already like two reboots behind), that + something else, or something else entirely...?

I swear I used to have DC femslash ships, but I've been out of the loop for so long it all feels off. Maybe I'll finally catch up on the current canon this year...

"And even those I tweak, because isn't fandom about that?" -- absolutely agree, especially for DC comics. After all those years and reboots, it's less "canon" and more "vibe", anyway. Personally, Barbara Gordon will always be the early Birds of Prey era Oracle!

"Steph as Green Lantern" -- ohhhh, okay, that is very chewy for my brain. Thanks for the mental image! Also, I'd love to hear more if you'd like to yell about it over DMs or email or sth.

"when Kate wasn't Bruce's cousin" -- huh! I thought she's been his cousin at least since 52 Week! But that's comics fandom for you, it's nearly as "goodbad" as fanon - the characters and events kinda float around, and suddenly you find out that something "obvious" is actually a really new addition, or not even true.

Love the femslash enthusiasm, and enjoyed reading about your fave femslash ships! :D And thank you for the prompt. I'm a multishipper and enjoy various configurations, but have had quite the number of F/F obsessions. Somehow they seem to motivate me to make my most ambitious fannish projects, like a 4-part fanmix (for Daisy Wells/Hazel Wong from the middle grade book series Murder Most Unladylike) or even learning from scratch how to fanvid (for Barriss Offee/Ahsoka Tano from Star Wars: The Clone Wars).

I've been dipping my toes in GL online webcomics, too. I recently began watching "Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born", which is a k-drama adaptation of a GL webtoon, and it is extremely, deliberately femslashy :D It's set in the 1950s, post-war South Korea, and the main character is striving to prove herself in the gukgeuk form of theater. While she's a trainee, she has many intriguing dynamics with the other girls. ;) And there's also an all-but-in-name married older lesbian couple that even has their own kid, going through their own angst.

(Oops, I've rambled a lot. As you can see, the show is making me very happy right now!)

The f/f story I'm obsessed with these days is a webtoon named Nevermore. I love the main romance, the worldbuilding, the art, the themes, the secondary characters, the mysteries, everything. It's very freely based on Edgar Allan Poe's works, but you don't have to be familiar with his work to understand.

Lenore and Annabel Lee are dead. Like all dead, they're amnesiac, but they feel drawn to things that remind them of their past lives, and they sure feel drawn to each other.
They are enrolled by force in the Nevermore academy, that teaches people who died too young how to become powerful ghosts.

I love the memory themes here. Lenore and Annabel Lee don't remember the same parts of their relationship at all. The memories of your death - not the facts, but your emotional state at this moment - gives you strong haunting powers. I can't wait to see how Lenore and Annabel Lee died.
The misunderstandings, and the secrets, are part of the conflict of the relationship, so is Lenore's habit to act without thinking and Annabel Lee's habit to think too long and too coldly. Still, I long to see them together, in flashbacks or in the future.
